day 487:
working on a backlog of pics this weekend.......this trip was the weekend before I found out that I was pregnant with Limi.....so it feels like the last couple-holiday that A. and i had. marrakesh is a beautiful place....this was my third visit and it enthralled me just as much.......we stayed in a couple of riads. first stop was the incredibly stylish, private residence, Dar Dharma.......
i've always loved the idea of riads.....opening heavy, wooden doors that reveal an ornate interior on the inside....rooms arranged around a central courtyard filled with orange trees.....riads make perfect sense to me....
we stayed in the blue room at Dar Dharma which had a delicious mix of grey concrete and blue/black morroccan tilework....the owners live in Italy and you can definitely see accents of Italian design in the chairs and some of the lamps that they've chosen throughout.....
we arrived into Marrakesh on a late flight and after meeting Sahid and following him down a maze of dimly lit alleys in the Medina, we walked into a warm welcome at Dharma, the table was laid in the living-room and we were served warming Harira soup with baked-that-day-bread.....
after dinner, we put on some warm clothes and went up onto the roof terrace for coffee.....
a wonderful start to what was a truly glorious long weekend at the top of Africa. it's been a tonic to edit these pics while the rain trickles down the windows in London this weekend.
Spectacularly stunning! There's something soothing about dark corners and shadows and thick, stone walls protecting from the heat.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing that memory and the stunning photos. For a moment I was transported.
