aug, 15th - kidivist in situ....

day 918 / 17:

the beautiful Kidivist mobile {see day 909 / 8} installed over Claya's crib in her small nook in our room. thanks again Anne. it is already capturing her attention.

the teddy bear was given to us before Limi was born. it is filled with sari fabric that was blessed in a temple in India. i love the idea that the insides of this bear have this adventurous history.

the last pic is of the antique sheet given to me by a good friend at my babyshower. she lives close to this market and manages to find the most amazing things.....bet this sheet also has a tale to tell.

thank you again for all the kind comments. we're slowly finding our way with two and appreciate all the encouragement.....it certainly makes things interesting now that we only have one pair of hands per child.........especially at bath time.

aug, 6th - kidivist....

day 909 / 8:

i've had my eye on a Kidivist mobile for ages.....these origami, animal mobiles have a beautifully, whimsical yet graphic quality. each mobile is handcrafted by the lovely Anne in Berlin: from the paper animals to the bending of the delicate aluminium hangers to the packaging.....Anne puts each creation together in her studio (see some pics that she sent, below).

i ordered the black and white Japanese paper mobile to go with 'thunderhooves' crib {see day 888}. Anne and i exchanged a couple of emails and i can honestly say that she's one of the nicest people that i've bought something from. my order was in the mail after two days in a bid to beat thunderhooves.

the parcel was something to get excited about....gorgeous packaging and lots of sweet detail. and the mobile itself completely exceeded expectation. beautifully balanced, it gently rocks at the slightest breeze.

i can't wait to show you it installed above the crib.....just perfect.

jul, 16 - pimping the crib....

day 888:

so, the crib has been painted {see post, below}. i bought a sturdy but basic, wooden crib from one of the big, online children's stores, sanded it back (with Limi's help) and covered it in blackboard paint. i love the matt result and can't wait to see it with crisp white linen. next step is to add some wheels so that we can easily move it around the Shoebox.

to me, it's perfect, A. is not as convinced by blackboard paint so perhaps you can solve our style debate by leaving a comment below......we'll count the scores and the loser will have to give the winner ten full minutes of back tickles....

help, i love back tickles.

jun, 5th - big girl's bed....

day 877:

we took the side off Limi's bed last week.....mainly because she seemed ready and we're changing the sleep routine in preparation for 'thunderhooves' {see day 785}. there was unbelievable excitement about being able to sit and play in bed, jump around and off the bed and have her very own pillow. it's been going pretty well with only the odd roll-off at night. sometimes resulting in us finding her curled up happily on the pile of blankets next to the bed and at other times the jolt waking her up with tears.

in the mornings, she wakes up and comes straight into our room and hops into bed with us (which is a real perk.....not having to claw our way out of bed and haul her out of the cot). the only minus being that it's generally earlier than six o'clock.

morning naps are now either in the buggy or the bed depending on what the day holds, except for earlier this week (pic above) where i found her happily curled up half on and half off.

p.s. although i'm a big fan of plain white linen, i have some ideas for homemade linen for Limi's bed.....let's see if i can get my act together.

day 245:

i've been dreaming of this wall sticker tree, from Rockett St George, to put on Limi's wall and turn into her 'seasonal tree'. a bit like a year-round Christmas Tree that we can have fun decorating according to the seasons....

it's not quite the perfect dimensions though......

so, i think that i may attempt my own version.....watch this space!
