may, 17th - typography and signage.......

day 1184 / 283:

something that i could have lingered on for ages during our visit to the London Transport Museum Depot {see yesterday, day 1183 / 282} was the typography and the signs....especially the old advertising on the routemasters and the maintenance signs......

London Transport take their typography seriously, you can read more about the the Johnston typeface that they use, here.

dec, 27th - christmas....

day 664:

merry, merry christmas everyone. hope you are having a wonderful break.

ours has been filled with delicious food, a bit of a doilie fetish this year, friends, family and a couple of bracing walks.

limi and i made gingerbread men...my first attempt... and decorated some mandarins. aaah, the smell of gingerbread, mandarins, cloves and pine needles......definitely reminds me more of my northern hemisphere christmases than those down south.

looking forward to a new year and new exciting projects.
thank you for all the support this year and all the lovely comments.

jul, 6th - wandering around bermondsey....

day 510:

Bermondsey is an area of London that we are just getting to know.......made up of buildings that remind me of Dickens and Oliver Twist, the area is collecting beautiful boutiques, New-York-style restaurants, Saturday markets and art galleries.......close to Tate Modern {see day 411}, Borough Market {see day 167} and the Design Museum, it's definitely somewhere that deserves some more weekend wanders......

beautiful buildings.......

jun, 20th - weekend....

day 495:

my sister and niece were in town this weekend....Limi was wriggle-out-of-her-skin excited to see them.

this is what we got up to......

we walked around this East London neighbourhood.....

we had lunch at The Boundary restaurant. not only is its' setting in an old Victorian warehouse stunning, but the food and the service were just brilliant. they accommodated a table of different ages with style as well as negotiating a table of horses without stress. a really lovely place....and we'll be back to have a drink on their roof terrace...taking in the view of London whilst wrapped in a complimentary blanket and toasting our toes against the fire.

love the windows and the interior of Hostem down the road......

it's all industrial lighting, raw metal, french linen, reclaimed wood, bare bulbs and plaster.......i've decided that if i ever build a house, this collection of materials will be my brief.

oh, and they have beautiful clothes too......

finally, family time for father's day.

ps. black cabs in London have a child seat in the middle of the backseat....this was posed just before we hopped out.

may, 29th - hackney city farm....

day 476:

heehaah. what a great day.

we discovered another absolute gem in London {via lovely friend, Bonnie}.....Hackney City Farm. it's smack in the middle of East London and very close to this and this and this. and somehow, after all this time in London it completely escaped my notice.........

it's a perfect mix of farmyard and quirky english eccentricity. in between the pigs, ducks, chickens, straw and lambs, there was photoshoot going on and the sound of cars in the background. it's not a petting farm, it's really more the real deal...standing at the fence looking at ducks frolicking in the bath....or running across a cobbled courtyard scattering chickens.

it felt just like a visit to a farm of some slightly, shambolic relatives who look after their animals like children (it's a very happy and healthy farmyard) . unsurprisingly....Limi loved it.

[this is after Limi joined the ducks splashing in a puddle]

sometimes you do something once and think although that was fun, you wont be rushing back. HCF is definitely worth more than one visit.
