jul, 20th - routine mojo...gone....

day 158:

my routine mojo obviously decided to stay behind in Cornwall (probably thought that it was not yet windswept and interesting enough....). we certainly haven't stuck to just one routine in the past 5.5 months ...but as Limi has grown and changed, I've tried to understand her patterns and build the routine around her and us.

we started out with feeds every 3-4 hours and a loooong sleep in the middle of the day followed by short naps on either side. this was brilliant for lazy lunches with friends (see day 15) but meant that they seldom got to see her awake and even resorted to poking and prodding her on occasion (you know who you are :). lately, she's been favouring a longer nap after her formula in the morning followed by a 2-ish hour nap early afternoon....but well this week...all patterns have vanished. and i'm stuck scrambling for bottles because she's suddenly ravenous....and trawling the local streets to get her to sleep when we appear to have somehow missed the afternoon nap and I know that she won't last until bedtime....help! if you're in Cornwall please post my mojo back (first class!).

so......below is a collage of my neighbourhood pacings (stopping for coffee once i've succeeded in getting her to drop off....hooray!)

jul, 19th - getting creative....

day 157:

i was feeling creative today. made a headband for Limi out of one of mine and a spare button that was hanging about in a drawer. i think that it makes her look a bit like a 17th century Dutch painting....or alternatively i'm misguided and she looks more like a washer woman.

Heather Moore's Skinny laMinx dress
love the prints by Heather Moore at Skinny laMinx...and her blog is also a must-read if you're into design, printmaking or creativity. she's based in Cape Town, South Africa, but sells her gorgeously-sludgy-coloured wares internationally, on Etsy. Take a look. I'm coveting this cushion with it's whimsical protea to remind me of home.

jul, 18th - milk beard....

day 156:

forget milk moustaches....they're so 2001, the new dairy-fashion-accessory is the milk beard.
after a slow start (see day 129) limi now loves her formula (well wearing it at least!)

jul, 17th - just keep on driving....

day 155:

shoowee, a long drive is tough on babies. strapped into a car-seat in a warm, crammed car.....our drive back from Cornwall made me feel guilty for the full 6 hours....next time i'm taking a train/ boat/ plane...anything that allows her a bit of freedom of movement. i mean, when we were small, we were lying on the back rear-window platform...or when we were really small, we were in baskets at our mum's feet or stretched across her lap. (which doesn't make it right but definitely wins if they're handing out high-risk-high-comfort badges.)

on the way down...we managed to break up the journey with a cricket match (see day 148) in-between and left the last 2.5 hours for night-time when she was happy to sleep. but, on the way home, we were just keen to get back. so, except for changing, feeding and rolling on a rug on a tiny patch of grass we found on the edge of a parking-lot (oh the glamour)...we just kept on trucking.

i highly DON'T recommend it!

we did ALOT of singing and even tried row, row, row your boat as a round WITH actions.

i was just happy to get home, pluck her from that seat and let her roll with abandon!
i've made a solemn promise that she won't be subjected to the car-seat for at least three days.

jul, 16th - mouse in mousehole....

day 154:

pretty apt that we took Lissom, whose nickname is mouse, (see day 135) back to our favourite spot in Cornwall -  Mousehole.

it's a postcard harbour village...they should seriously consider charging visitors per photo. They'd make a fortune!

jul, 15th - family history....

day 153:

A.'s father's family originally come from Cornwall....they owned some farms, a pub that still exists and a post office. sadly, these properties are no longer in the family so we have had to pay for all stamps, cream, milk and beers ourselves....

jul, 14th - cornwall and cricket....

day 152:

"Cricket makes no sense to me. I find it beautiful to watch and I like that they break for tea. That is very cool..."
Jim Jarmusch

"I do love cricket - it's so very English."

"in England, watching cricket, much like playing it, demands stamina, patience, and warm clothing"

Polarize for iPhone

day 150:

farewell to the soccer world cup! South Africa has done themselves proud….i have loved all the stories from friends about their wonderful experiences all around the country….and watched the entire tournament with a lump in my throat and a yearning to be home to see the world fall in love with all the things that make South Africa the wonderful place that I still call home…..the people…their warmth, humour and diversity….the incredible wildlife and landscapes….the wildness, urban-ness, rural-ness, creative-ness, and lots of other nesses. if you haven’t been…GO….it’s a beautiful, raw, inspiring, friendly place.
i am unbelievably excited to take limi home and have her smell the African air and absorb all that vibrancy.
