oct, 6th - 8 months....

day 236:

8 months old today! so...the 8 month round-up....

Dimensions & Weight:

Lenth - 72 cm (that's a whole 5cm growth since the 6 month update - day 175)
Foot Length - 11 cm
Hand Length - 8.5 cm

Ear Length - 5 cm
(whoohoo...at last some ear growth. 0.5 cm since day 175)

Hair - growing...still...but not enough to keep her warm in Winter.
Weight - 8.4kgs

This Month's Likes & Dislikes:

Likes -
crawling...at speed (day 222)

pulling herself up to standing

wholewheat toast!

blowing rasberries....still

swimming....still

bubbles (day 229)

clapping and clapping and clapping

playing peek-a-boo..guaranteed to make her belly-laugh (day 217)

balloons (day 234)

saying bababababa and mamamama but no dadadada

tropical fruits especially paw paw (papaya) and mango

violent forms of affection...hair pulling, nose grabbing, nail raking, eye poking.....still

wrestling with The Monk

Dislikes -

any protein...can your 8 month old decide to become vegetarian?

lumps in her food

sleeping in!

not being able to stand without holding on....very frustrating

keeping a hat on

jul, 6th - 5 months....

day 144:

5 months old today! so...the 5 month round-up....

Dimensions & Weight:

Lenth - 65cms
(altho' difficult to tell this month with a squirming rolling baby)
Foot Length - 9.8cms
Hand Length - 8cms

Ear Length - 4.5cms
(which hasn't changed in 3 months..so just goes to show that ears don't grow very fast)

Eyelashes - grown!! they're much longer...like horses'

Weight - not sure...will have to make my way to the baby-clinic (altho' think that there may be a marketing avenue for converting a kitchen baking scale into a baby scale)

This Month's Likes & Dislikes:

Likes -

rolling.....front to back, back to front (day 143)

soprano singing....very, very...very high pitched

wrestling with zozo (zebra)....he puts up quite a fight

blowing rasberries....still

eating toes...still

saying bababababababa....seems to have forgotten that she can say mama (day 132)

resting her feet on the pram bar

her two bottles of formula a day (do you think that they put opium in it? just a question because she seems addicted)

hugging...brand new thing...it involves limi throwing her head violently against my chest....which is quite brutal on the collarbones but very sweet

other forms of violent-affection...hair pulling, nose grabbing, nail raking, eye poking.....i look like i've acquired an untrained kitten

gnawing squeak (aka sophie la girafe)...actually squeak II but don't tell Limi...in the absence of squeak....gnawing my finger, hand, arm...even on the odd occasion trying for my cheek

her cousins playing peek-a-boo with her....never fails to make her belly-laugh

Dislikes -
being swaddled...our swaddling days are over (day 133)

the bright Summer sunshine in her eyes

me holding her bottle...when she can so obviously hold it herself (or so she thinks)

the cot's bars...too restrictive for her freeform-break-dance-swivelling at night

ps. a friend raised the very good question of why do most cots still have bars on the side...surely, they could improve the generic design to still allow air to flow but to stop the tangle of baby limbs and wood....

jun, 8th - perspective revisited....

day 119:

on day 33 i put limi into perspective. pics don't always give you a sense of scale and even though she is approximately the length of two desk rulers i thought that a photoshoot with everyday objects would help. so...now that she's 119 days old...it's maybe time to revisit these pics and see what's changed....

THEN: she is about the length of two bottles of wine....
NOW: she is about the length of two and a half bottles of wine....

THEN: or, two whisks, if you're a cook....
NOW: or, two and a half slightly chewed whisks, if you're a cook....

THEN: smaller than her largest soft toy....

NOW: leaving monk for dust....

THEN: with a head about the length of an iPhone...

NOW: still with a head about the length of an iPhone.....and now able to make calls!

THEN: and a body the length of a magazine....

NOW: body, still about a length of a magazine....

jun, 6th - 4 months.....

day 117:

4 months old today!

Dimensions & Weight:

Lenth - 63cms

Foot Length - 9.5cms

Hand Length - 7.5cms

Ear Length - 4.5cms

Weight - not sure...tried to weigh her on the home scale and the cooking scale but couldn't get either to work properly...alas, will have to take her in to the doctors!*

This Month's Likes & Dislikes:

Likes -

blowing rasberries....both giving and receiving
eating toes...and trying for a whole foot

rolling onto her side
being read to....we've started Winnie-the-Pooh reading hour (okay...reading 15 minutes)
crazy kicking legs and waving arms

baths...with some impressive, crazy-kicking-legs-and-waving-arms splashing these days
full-on pouting (brand new thing in the last two days)

Dislikes -

sleeping in.....time that could be spent toe eating
wearing socks....hinders toe eating
wearing baby-gros with feet.....hinders toe eating
sitting in the bumbo....hinders toe eating
sitting in the bouncing chair...hinders toe eating

* i weighed her on day 120 and she is now 5.90kgs....which is between 25 & 50% on the baby percentile graph....so perfectly normal.yay!
